I owe my obsession with the outdoors to my parents, Eunice Waterbury Darvill and Dr. Fred Darvill.
My dad was first struck with mountain fever in the late 1950s. My mom was always up for an adventure
so she also caught the bug. My brother and I were dragged along on many mountain adventures in several
states including the Yosemite Circuit and a portion of the John Muir Trail. My parents had favorite
places which we visited every year. My parents were my hiking buddies. My mom and I went so many places
together until I had some babies to care for and could no longer join her. By the time the babies were
grown, my parents were failing. I was interested in getting to more challenging places and decided I needed
to find outdoor friends.
I found some sites where I could find partners and gradually built up a group of awesome ladies and finally put that group together as a meetup. I ran the meetup running at least one activity per week for several years; then I dropped the meetup and became an assistant organizer for several groups. I met numerous fabulous people along the way and became lifelong friends with some of them.
I branched out into snowshoeing about 20 years ago and have introduced several people to snowshoeing and backpacking. I have connected people together with similar skills, interests, and schedules. I even ended up doing more scrambling. My parents took me on some when we were young, but I had moved away from that for years. My husband likes to scramble meaning I will be doing more of it.
I often have people consulting me about routes and places to go as my store of trail knowledge is vast as I have been to so many places; yet there are still many more to see! Hope to see you on the trails!!
